Dragonlance Movie

Dungeons and Dragons movies have had a history of being far below par, even when measured against grade-B standards.  That is why I am excited, but with trepidation, for the first Dragonlance movie to be released, “Dragons of Autumn Twilight.”

The movie is going to be animated, and by the look of the screen-caps on the official site, I am unable to discern what the actual quality of the animation will be – it looks to be a mix of traditional drawing and CGI.  At first, I was disappointed, but given all of the popular new movies that follow that same vein (Shrek, Monster House, etc.), it seems that medium will not be a terrible choice for a fantasy story.

A PG-13 rating is pending for the film that is due in, you guessed it, autumn of 2007.  Additionally, the voice of Raistlin will be Kiefer Sutherland, an excellent pick, in my opinion.  I can’t imagine that a big name like that would lend itself to a movie with little hope of success.

Dust off that Dragonlance novel and re-read it again before you go and see the flick, and if you want more information you can find it at the official site:  http://www.dragonlance-movie.com/

I’m nervously excited about this. DragonLance is actually the first D&D series I ever read. I still go back and reread the War of The Lance, probably once a year or so. That being said this has a lot to live up to for me. And as we have talked about in the past, disappointment is all to common where Hollywood is concerned.

    But…
Kiefer Sutherland has the perfect feel for Raist to me! And the limited screen shots look great. Sure a “real” film would have been the stretch goal. But I’d settle for animation, as long as its down right.

I’m curious to see how Tanis will be portrayed. He was my favorite character.

John, tell me you have seen Transformers!!

I just picked up season 1 of Voltron from a friend at work. So you know how I’ll be spending the next week! Do they make cute chicks that are in to sci-fi?

I’m sad to say I have not seen Transformers yet. We had family up last week and were supposed to see it at the drive-in, but ended up bringng the projector outside for a night of Nacho Libre.

To answer your second question, it’s been a long time since I’ve seen Voltron, and an even longer time since meeting a girl that’s into it. ;)
