Here is the official list of entertainers for GenCon.  I can attest for the Brobdingnagian Bards – they incorporate a lot of cool celtic sounds as well as humor into their songs.  Some of them look to be pretty entertaining!

The Badges Are In!

I just received my GenCon badge today, as well as all of my event tickets (everyone’s TD tickets included).  Keep an eye out in the mail for yours.  I’m told that if you don’t have them after the first week in August, start making calls to customer service.

GenCon DVD Intro

In my spare time, I’ve been messing around with diferrent video editing software, and I’ve managed to come up with a rough draft of the GenCon DVD intro.  It’s a 6.11mb .wmv file that you can stream with a broadband connection or save with a dial-up.

Keep in mind, this was just me fooling around, and some of the art will change.  On top of that, the quality of the finished product is much better than the version you will see (for download purposes).  Anyway, take a look and let me know what you think – I still get a chuckle when watching it.   I’ve also completed the main menu and some other sections, but I’m not going to release any of that until the final version.  Enjoy!

Dragonlance Movie

Dungeons and Dragons movies have had a history of being far below par, even when measured against grade-B standards.  That is why I am excited, but with trepidation, for the first Dragonlance movie to be released, “Dragons of Autumn Twilight.”

The movie is going to be animated, and by the look of the screen-caps on the official site, I am unable to discern what the actual quality of the animation will be – it looks to be a mix of traditional drawing and CGI.  At first, I was disappointed, but given all of the popular new movies that follow that same vein (Shrek, Monster House, etc.), it seems that medium will not be a terrible choice for a fantasy story.

A PG-13 rating is pending for the film that is due in, you guessed it, autumn of 2007.  Additionally, the voice of Raistlin will be Kiefer Sutherland, an excellent pick, in my opinion.  I can’t imagine that a big name like that would lend itself to a movie with little hope of success.

Dust off that Dragonlance novel and re-read it again before you go and see the flick, and if you want more information you can find it at the official site:  http://www.dragonlance-movie.com/

Friday the 13th

In a short four days, we’ll continue our road towards the end of the Iron Acropolis campaign, and that thought gives one pause.  The fabled “Friday the 13th” session.  If I remember correctly, we’ve only had two other such occurrences where we’ve gamed, and one of them generated the infamous “white robed creature walking in the middle of the street” spectacle.  It was the same session that made the small town of Cherrywood famous – that quaint little village in the Blood Star campaign that instilled a memorable fear of general mistrust and malign through everything, animate or not.

The question is begged: this far in our current story, where invincibility seems a short breath away, what could possibly face the group and evoke the same type of response?  We all know that there are plenty of options to answer that question, but in which form will they come, and in what numbers?  In-game death has had its blow lessened since the advent of our resident’s mage’s resurrection abilities, but a good scare is still something that everyone enjoys.  I don’t believe, as well, that a creepy ambiance or unsettling encounter can be stifled by the magic-heavy, weapon-toting confident adventurer – after all, these are still stories we’re participating in, and anything can happen.

Here’s to hoping that this Friday the 13th goes off with a blast, and ends with the heaped bodies of a certain group of adventurers.  Actually, I retract that statement, just in case this happens to be a 13th with certain anti-DM properties.

Who will fall victim, PC or DM?  The dice will tell. ;)
