After more than two years, the PCs in the Fall of the Iron Acropolis campaign are reaching near-epic levels (or at least within sight) – a nice keep, lots of renown, clout in the local governments and a heap of gold to spend without pause. Sure, you say, we’re still five levels away from epic stance and those last few can be very hard to achieve given the xp amounts in between. Still, the Iron Acropolis looms near (start crit-ing with that axe, Ander) and two of the head enemies have been knocked off – doesn’t it seem logical that the ultimate victory (or the heart wrenching TPK) is not far around the corner?
My point hidden among this rambling is that the Iron Acropolis campaign has led us through a expansive and interesting tale, but in D&D, another story must always follow. Who, then, is to carry the torch? Sambo and Ryan had expressed interest in starting a campaign of their own, and I know Mia was really excited about a Ravenloft backstory. I myself wouldn’t mind a gaslamp campaign, or Call of Cthulhu – low magic, gritty and at the mercy of the DM.
That being said, the PC bug has bitten me and a new campaign would be a great reason for me to pull out my dusty PHB.
If any of you have ideas or suggestions as to what we could do after Iron Acropolis, feel free to comment on this article. Personally, I don’t care how long the current campaign goes on, as long as everyone is having fun. There are just so many NPCs in my head that I would love to convert into a player character, and it would be nice to fight along side you guys rather than in opposition. Takers, come forth!
